I have a purchased copy of Macrium Reflect Professional Edition (V5.3.7299), with all the latest updates. I’m running Windows 8.1 Pro (fully updated) on my HP Envy 4th Gen Core I7 notebook.
My problem -- I am unable to make a Macrium boot USB stick (my laptop doesn’t have a CDROM drive). I AM able to set up the Reflect startup boot option on my laptop, but I still need to have totally separate Bootable Restore Media to be completely safe.
The Create Restore Media wizard takes me through the process of setting up the creation parameters, using Windows PE 5.0 64-bit, and when I hit ‘Finish’, it goes through the process of creating the files on the USB stick. It completes, states that the process has COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY, and that I should reboot with the stick to check.
When I reboot with the USB stick as the boot option, after a few minutes I get the following error:
“The selected boot device failed. Press <Enter> to continue”
--which eventually boots me back to the OS on the hard disk on the laptop.
I have tried more than one USB stick – so it can’t be a problem with the stick.
I’ve even tried preparing the USB stick with the procedure as described at http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Preparing+a+USB+stick+for+Windows+PE. Same result – no change.
I have successfully created a bootable rescue stick for another program which I use (AX64 Time Machine), which boots without any problem into that program (so it doesn’t seem like there’s a problem with my Windows installation).
I’m a little worried that if there’s a problem which prevents booting to my hard disk completely , I will have no method of running Reflect. I really hope I can resolve this problem quickly!
Thanks
