As has been said, having only one backup set is "putting all your eggs in one basket" so to speak. I have daily backup sets for the current week, weekly backup sets for the past 5 weeks, monthly backup sets for the past 3 months and one set from the start of the current year. All but the daily sets are kept on an external USB drive which is not kept connected to the computer. I also have an offsite USB drive that is used once a month and contains backup sets for the three most recent months.
And I am NOT considered to be very thorough. There are many here that have even more/better backups philosophies than I do.
