Hi Everyone,
I am a new, registered user of Macrium Reflect v5 - Pro Household.
I love the program (think it is one of the best in its class from my personal experiences and from the reviews that I have read), but have a situation that I have not encountered before that is more urgent than what I have used the program for in the past.
I have a Dell desktop with a Seagate Barracuda ST3500418AS (7200.12) as the primary, internal hard drive. All was fine until one day the computer began freezing at the Windows 7 start up screen. So I promptly backed up all of my data and removed the drive from my computer to put it in a Orico 6518SUSB SATA HDD Docking Station Enclosure, and noticed that the drive was constantly reading/writing. After some research, I changed the Windows power saving settings to disable the USB selective suspending setting, and also used the utility “CrystalDiskInfo” Software to disable Advanced Power Management (APM) on the drive (as it is a “SMART”-type drive). Making these changes finally stopped the frequent reading/writing on the disk, and allowed me to work with in in Reflect.
What I would like to do is to clone/image the Barracuda ST3500418AS onto a new, preferably larger SATA hard drive, and then re-insert it into the Dell desktop for continued use with all of my programs and data “cloned” from the (what seems to be imminently failing Barracuda ST3500418AS).
I am using my HP laptop running Reflect v5 Pro, and my source for the image/backup is a Western Digital 4TB “My Book” External USB hard drive (until I have time to pick out a new replacement internal SATA for the Dell desktop).
In Reflect, since my “destination” disk is a USB drive of large capacity, Reflect would not allow me to “clone” the Seagate Barracuda onto the WD; so I chose to “image” the Seagate Barracuda, selecting to include all partitions of the Seagate Barracuda, as well as selecting to “Make an Exact Copy of The Partitions” and also “No Compression” for the files (since disk space on the WD was not an issue for me.
So far, all appears to be going well with the “imaging”, and the estimated time left is 10 hours (out of a total of 12 at the start).
My question is, since I was not able to choose the “Clone This Disk” feature (which I understand is preferable when cloning and replacing a failing hard drive), will I be OK having chosen to “Image the Disk” with all of the options I have selected, and then once the “imaging” is completed on the WD, will I be able to then transfer the image onto a new SATA internal (preferably larger than the original 500GB Seagate Barracuda that the programs and data were originally “imaged” off of) again using Reflect v5 Pro, without any problems?
I would greatly appreciate any feedback, thoughts and advice anyone might have about my situation (and how I am attempting to handle it) I would really appreciate it.
Thanks so much.
Best Wishes,
Brian
