Mounting an image does not verify the image data block checksums. For this reason, you can generally copy files from the image even if the image is corrupt. This won't guarantee that the file is without errors and may not be possible if image file corruption extends to the imaged file system meta data, e.g, the NTFS Master File Table (MFT).

To verify the full integrity of the image you'll need to use the image verification functionality.
