Just purchased a 4 user pack of Reflect and started testing the program, but I immediately ran into a problem. I Installed Reflect (paid version) on XP laptop. Image Backing up to usb backup hd (Seagate Free agent Desk) (call it Drive E). Backup runs fine, but when auto verify starts, it fails instantly, and deletes the backup file. If I run the backup without verify, it completes fine. The image file is mountable and files appear OK. If I run manual verify of the image file, it again fails instantly.
Ran chkdsk on the backup Drive E. Found some errors which I repaired with /f. Same failure of verify.
Tried networked backup hd (Drive F). Worked fine with auto verify.
Tried another Seagate Free Agent backup hd (Drive G). Worked fine with auto verify.
Result Assumptions: Computer is fine as Drive F and G work OK. Drive E can create a backup file that mounts and reads files, but has a problem of some sort with verify.
The verify operation starts, loads the Index, but when "Verifying" displays, it instantly (within 200ms) says "Verification Failure, Data verification failed" and won't continue.
This drive had been configured as a GPT partition table type. I had to change it to MBR type before the XP laptop would read it. But the conversion went smoothly and I can copy files to it with no problems. Could something with this cause the verify failures?
I know you say verify errors are always something with hardware, but I don't know where to turn to diagnose this problem. (simple answer is don't use this drive, but I'd like to solve the problem so it won't happen with another drive.
