Reflect uses the Windows task scheduler to run scheduled tasks. It is Windows that is defaulting to 72 hours. You can (as you know) change that as needed.

You do not say that your drive is partitioned but suggest it with your second question. Doing what you suggest would slow down the backup since it would require a lot more movement of the disk heads - a very slow (relatively) part of the access process. If your drive were SSD that would not be an issue. Still, reflect does things in a specific way for reasons of speed and reliability of the backup. If your drive is partitioned you could scheduled backups of each partition separately so none requires more than 72 hours to complete.

Another option is to set the backup priority to a lower level if the backup is slowing down your computer. This can be done using Edit Defaults/Backup/Priority. Of course this could slow down the backup - but it could speed up other tasks that run during the backup.
