When using a mounted image, no check is made for file integrity. So it is entirely possible that things APPEAR fine when browsing the image. However the files MAY not be exact replicas of what you had backed up. If the issue is just with one cluster, the rest of the image may be fine and the odds are that you will not be looking at or restoring bad data when browsing.
Usually a checksum issue suggests a problem with the source disk, the destination disk or the connection between the two. Is your destination on a NAS drive? Is it on USB or networked drive? You may want to try backing up to a different physical drive to see if that effects the checksum error.
